Jo the Crow's Joy

by Daniel E. Blackston
Picture
Jo dropped a feather for joy.
Jo rode the tallest church steeple. For joy.
Jo blocked the sun with one wing. For joy.
Jo followed the wind all day. For joy.
Jo watched a boy miss him with a rock. Joy.
Jo saw a lady find her lost keys. Joy.
Jo saw a birthday cake on a picnic table. Joy.
Jo touched your town's darkest street. Joy.
Jo soared over a shining plain
that seemed to have no end --
his wings went on beating
toward a deeper joy.
